The UMBC doctoral program in Language, Literacy, and Culture (LLC) is accepting applications to begin in the Fall 2022 semester. The application deadline is January 15th.
LLC is an interdisciplinary and cross-departmental doctoral program in which areas of research across the humanities, social sciences, and education intersect. It emphasizes sociocultural and linguistic diversity in research, practice, and policy, with special attention to social justice, change, equity, power, and identity. Faculty members of the Language and Literacy in Education Research Cluster (LERC) of the UMBC Department of Education focus on language and literacy development and practices that foster equitable educational and social opportunities for learners of diverse backgrounds. LERC faculty affiliates of LLC supervise doctoral students in these areas and welcome inquiries to discuss prospective students’ research topics.
For more information about LERC faculty members and their areas of specialization, see the attached document or visit:

The Doctoral Program in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of North Carolina Greensboro (UNC Greensboro) is accepting applications for admission to our program for students beginning in Fall 2022. Our Ph.D. program is designed for advanced study in communication sciences and disorders, with an emphasis on the development of research skills to prepare students for academic positions in higher education. Many of our graduates are in faculty positions at colleges and universities engaged in teaching, research, and other scholarly activities. The department is housed in the school of Human Health and Sciences.
Our Early Language and Literacy for Diverse Children Lab directed by Dr. Lucía I. Méndez, is currently recruiting graduate students interested in pursuing doctoral studies with research and clinical interests in Latino dual language learners and culturally-linguistically diverse young children. One of the lab’s aims is to study early language and literacy development that supports school readiness in Latino dual language learners. Dr. Méndez’ research, currently funded by the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation, also examines evidence-based practices for the assessment and treatment of culturally and linguistically diverse children at risk for language and academic outcome disparities. If you hold or are completing a Masters degree in communication science and disorders, speech and hearing sciences, linguistics, psychology, education or another relevant field, and are interested in conducting research in early language and literacy development in culturally and linguistically diverse young children, please contact Dr. Méndez ; doctoral funding opportunities are available for qualified applicants. For more information about UNC Greensboro’s doctoral program contact Dr. Lundgren, doctoral program director.
