Test Development Assistant, WLIP (temporary)

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Assist with tasks related to test development, test rating, and research for tests of English proficiency.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with development of test rating procedures and processes, including selecting anchor responses and writing justifications for items
Coordinate recruiting and hiring of consultants to serve as remote raters
Contribute to development and delivery of rater training
Maintain correspondence with raters to answer questions and enforce deadlines
Track work completed by raters and perform quality control checks
Assess needs for internal rating, participate in rating, and provide rating assignments to other members of the project team as needed
Other duties as assigned related to language testing and research projects
Availability for work December 1 – January 6
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: BA/BS degree in a related field and 3 years of related experience or a MA/MS degree in a relevant field

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Manage test development for a large-scale English language proficiency test for grades K – 12. Includes supervision of a multi-person team of language testing specialists, coordination with managers of functional teams to ensure the delivery of final test forms, and ensuring adherence to rigorous quality control processes.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead a team of test developers
Approve final test forms
Develop and ensure adherence to timelines for test development processes and procedures
Guide the development of item specifications
Review and approve test item specifications
Review and approve test items during phases of the item development process
Ensure all quality control procedures are followed in the test development processes
Refine, develop, and implement new procedures as needed
Monitor the relationship between the tests and the standards upon which they are based
Solicit and oversee implementation of feedback from funder, external reviewers, and stakeholders
Coordinate work with Production and Tech Teams for both routine procedures and special projects
Coordinate the participation of test developers in test-related research activities
Coordinate with Senior Research Advisors to prepare materials for pilot and field testing
Conduct pilot testing and field testing with other team members
Communicate with external project partners about progress on tasks
Document decisions and processes
Write reports, memos, and other documentation as needed

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: MA/MS in a related field and 6 or more years of experience or PhD in a related field and 2 or more years of experience, including supervisory experience, are required.
Experience: Successful candidate will have experience supervising and coordinating a team of test developers to produce paper-based and computer-based assessments. He or she will have project coordination experience; experience coordinating across functional teams; expertise in test item development, including both constructed response and selected response item types; and experience leading test development during all phases of development from specifications through final camera-ready copy. Experience with K-12 education, ELL education, and/or language testing is preferred.

Full-time ESL Faculty Position at Indiana State University Start Date: March 17, 2014

Program Description: The intensive English program administered by INTERLINK Language Centers at Indiana State University is seeking a full-time ESL faculty member to begin work on March 17, 2014. INTERLINK classes provide academically-oriented international students with language support, cultural orientation, and academic preparation. Key features of our friendly program include small class sizes, a project-based curriculum, experiential-learning approach, and access to university facilities and courses. Responsibilities: Full-time instructors teach in all four language skill areas (23 contact hours per week); are actively involved in new-student placement and orientation; keep office hours for students; participate in weekly staff meetings and occasional student activities; arrange experiential learning activities for students; contribute to discussions related to program accreditation and the curriculum; and, present periodically at TESOL conferences and/or other professional meetings.

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications: A demonstrated commitment to students, teaching, and the profession; a master’s degree in TESOL or applied linguistics; two or more years of relevant teaching experience; strong interest in cross-cultural training; and, familiarity with innovative approaches to language teaching. Applicants should hold U.S. citizenship or residency and be highly proficient in English. Overseas teaching experience, participation in the Peace Corps, and fluency in a second language are highly desired.

Salary and benefits: Salary is commensurate with experience and will range between $32,000- 38,000. The Department of Applied Linguistics at Pennsylvania State University is seeking an experienced and dynamic full-time ESL Lecturer starting in Fall 2014 for its Intensive English Communication Program (IECP). The successful candidate is committed to international education and is able to work effectively in a strong team environment to meet and exceed the needs and expectations of international students seeking high quality English academic preparation in a college or university setting.

The position is a 36-week (academic year) appointment which carries an annual 7-course teaching load (4 courses one semester, 3 courses the other) with an option for summer teaching. Additional duties include assisting with placement testing, providing course syllabi, generating lesson plans, grade reports and other curriculum-related documents, holding office hours, working collaboratively with other faculty, attending faculty meetings, and participating in committees and professional development activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

* Masters in Teaching English as a Second Language (T.E.S.L.), Teaching to Speakers of Other Languages (T.E.S.O.L.), or related fields
* Three years teaching experience in an Intensive English or Academic English preparation program in a college or university setting where English is the language of instruction
* Record of on-going professional development
* A high level of proficiency in English

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience developing and teaching online courses, developing valid assessments, and/or integrating technology in class
* Experience in teacher training projects and/or developing new academic programs
* Experience teaching ESL/EFL abroad

* Proficiency in one or more languages other than English

The English as a Foreign Language (EFL) program in the Center for Language Education and Development (CLED) invites applications for the position of full-time Instructor, English as a Foreign Language, beginning mid-August 2014.   The position offers a 10 month academic year contract with benefits and the opportunity for renewal.   Summer teaching is also available under separate contract.  The salary is commensurate with experience.

 

The mission of the Georgetown University EFL program is to provide quality language instruction and cultural orientation to students who require English for their academic, professional or personal needs.   Faculty incorporate a variety of teaching methods and technologies in their classroom instruction based on current best practices in the field.  

 

CLED EFL Instructors are expected to maintain a clear understanding of the program’s curricular objectives and teaching expectations; plan and implement lessons that are engaging, productive and challenging; participate in program administrative functions including testing and orientation responsibilities;  serve on program committees;  and engage in ongoing professional development activities.

 

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in TESL or closely related field
  • Minimum of 3 years full time teaching experience in a university based intensive  EFL/ESL program
  • Experience in communicative language methodology, skills integration, task based learning, and proficiency in using technology as an integrated component of  classroom instruction
  • Experience in teaching across program levels and skills
  • Interest in teaching in overseas programs
  • Experience in distance learning methodologies
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of an instructional team

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Complete storyboards and detailed specification sheets using layout guide and existing paper based test

Review and check drafts of items for adherence to specification sheets and to identify errors
Prepare written protocols and checklists
Proof and copyedit materials according to style guide

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: BA/BS degree in a related field and 3 years of related experience or a MA/MS degree in a relevant field
Experience: Successful candidate will have experience working with language testing or K-12 ELLs

The Center for Applied Linguistics (CAL) seeks a graduate student intern for the 2014 spring semester to work with the Oral Proficiency Assessment Team on its projects related to test development, language instructor professional development, and research. Current projects involve developing and entering data into databases for development of computerized tests for Mandarin Chinese and French, analyzing oral language data, writing tasks for a listening and reading test of English, and conducting research on university administrator perceptions of the validity of an international test of English.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
We are primarily interested in a graduate student or PhD candidate who is familiar with and interested in the topic areas of Foreign Language Education, Oral Proficiency and Testing/Assessment. The selected intern will assist in preparation of test and training materials, data collection, data analysis, and research.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Educational or working experience in language/linguistics, education or related discipline
