DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Work with CAL’s psychometrics and quantitative research team to provide expert level assistance and support in research and project activities related to the ACCESS for ELLs English language proficiency assessment. Work will include the analysis of assessment data for internal and external applications, and the preparation of technical reports. The quantitative research assistant will assist senior researchers in the preparation of analyses and tables and figures to include in written reports.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Data cleaning.
Work with large data files, including investigating and understanding data transfer procedures and their applications.
Descriptive statistical analysis in Excel and SPSS.
Checking analysis.
Creating SPSS syntax to clean and manipulate data sets.
Investigating and understanding data sets and their connection to applications.
Work to prepare technical reports.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:

Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) in a relevant field with 8 years’ of quantitative experience, or Master’s degree (MA/MS) in statistics or other quantitative field with 4 years’ of quantitative experience is preferred.
Experience:

Experience with SQL.
Experience with WINSTEPS and Rasch analysis.
Experience with educational assessment, especially language assessment.
Experience with online adaptive assessments.

Advanced SPSS skills.

USIEC is currently recruiting English teachers to teach in China. We offer teaching positions in Kindergartens, Elementary Schools, and even After-School English Academies. Our locations include but are not limited to cities such as Shenyang, Beijing, Shanghai, Cixi, Nanjing, Tianjin, Chongqing, Tangshan etc. 

The standard working hours are Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Total teaching hours in the classroom do not exceed 25 periods per working week. Working hours vary from school to school. After classroom hours, most schools will assign administrative work including lesson planning, grading homework and parent meetings, etc. This is a good opportunity for ESL teachers to gain experience and advance their careers.

Benefits:

Monthly salary ranges from RMB 8,500 to RMB 18,000 —  based on school level, resume, and teaching experience.

Housing and most meals will be provided. If accommodation is not provided by the school, there will be a monthly housing allowance.

Requirements:

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
The Director, Adult Language and Literacy Education, is responsible for strengthening existing and developing new adult language education programs and activities as an integral part of CAL's global mission and development plan across all domains of program activities. The Director provides overall leadership for CAL's work in the education of adults who are non-native speakers of English, including those in postsecondary education, adult basic education, workplace training, and career and technical education programs in the United States. The Director pursues initiatives with partner organizations and state and federal agencies, as well as initiating projects that build on and expand CAL's existing strengths, in order to increase CAL's involvement and visibility in the adult education arena.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage all aspects of CAL’s Adult Language and Literacy Education area.
Direct CAL’s English for Heritage Language Speakers (EHLS) program, and other ongoing Adult Language and Literacy Education projects.
Collaborate with Senior Leadership and the Development Team in implementing the Adult Language and Literacy Education area development plan and agenda in accordance with CAL’s mission.
Support CAL’s efforts to advance new and innovative techniques to expand the Adult Language and Literacy Education area.
Work collaboratively across the organization to expand the CAL’s portfolio of contracts, grants, expertise, technical assistance services, experience, and reputation, particularly in the area of immigrant and refugee education.
Monitor external and internal environment for development of new market segments.
Collaborate with Vice President, Communications, on communication activities and marketing campaigns for services offered.
Represent the program area to clients, senior management, and external policy, research and development communities, including academia, the federal government, policy makers, and trade organizations.
Lead/direct the scope and execution of projects.
Manage and mentor project teams.
Participate in the organization’s budget processes to include develop and review quarterly financial and activity reports to ensure that expenses are consistent with the approved budget and programmatic activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Master’s degree (MA/MS) in a relevant field required, Doctoral degree (PhD or EdD) preferred.

Experience:
Minimum of six (6) to ten (10) years of experience including a minimum of five (5) years of program management and supervisory experience. Demonstrated knowledge/background/experience in adult language and literacy education.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Research position in first language acquisition research at ZAS (Berlin)

The DFG-Project on the “L1-acquisition of adversative connectives in German, English, and Bulgarian” is offering a part-time research position for 21 months. Because of the time frame for the position, we especially encourage post-MA candidates that are considering an academic career who would like to gain experience in theoretically based acquisition research. There is an opportunity for a continuation of the project for further 24 months. Alternatively, there is a possibility of a PhD-position opening in the ZAS acquisition group from 2017. 
 The position is remunerated according to E13 of the German TVOeD payscale (60%).
 
The required research concerns experimental investigations in the development of semantic connotations and the syntactic embedding of but in English- and aber in German-acquiring 2- to 6-year-olds. Applicants must have completed their MA-degree by the time of appointment, and should have a strong research interest in language acquisition research, specifically discourse-related syntactic development and experimental work. Fluent competence in German and English is required.

2. Research position in bilingualism at the Centre for General Linguistics (ZAS), Berlin, Germany
 
The Centre for General Linguistics (ZAS) is offering a part-time research position for 24 months (Salary Scale TVOeD-E13/2) to be filled at the earliest practicable date. We welcome applications to study Discourse-cohesive means in bilingual language acquisition. The focus of the project is on Russian-German preschool and primary school children. Aim of this project is to find out which criteria do children use to determine the anaphoric capacities of personal and demonstrative pronouns. Minimal requirement for application is MSc/MA Degree in Linguistics, Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy, Bilingualism or related fields.
